Hi all, my name is Lupita. Well, I've been on dialysis for close to about a year. I was wondering if anyone knows of a girl my age that might be going through the same thing or something similar. I'm 18 years old btw. I really yould like another girl my age to talk to or to hang out with. If anyone has heard of anyone like this, please let me know. I would very much appreciate it.

Hi there Lupita, If you google "kidney failure" or "kidney disease" etc, you will come across online forums where you may find others your age. I'm sorry I can't give you exact links as I've not looked many up myself.
I have chronic kidney failure myself and will be having a transplant next month. I say this because I know there's a kidney community online in my country so there'd have to be where you are.
I'm 35 and us younger ones are more so in the minority when it comes to all this.
I wish you all the very best in finding a doner very soon. I'm fortunate in that because my Dad is suitable, I'm skipping dialysis this time aroune; that is not to say however, I might be so lucky next time but let's hope very soon, that advancements in technology might bring about a pleasant change.

Needles; still not good at them. :(
Best of luck to you as well Gismo and anyone else on the waiting list.

The National Kidney Foundation has a telephone support network program...
it sounds something like Zone By Phone whereby you're matched up with a
Peer Mentor and can leave voice mail messages and can chat with your Peer
mentor... and it sounds like it is completely free for US residents.

Have a look here for more information:

Wonder if there's such a service here? I'll have to look into it.

For those on a iOS device, here's the link since it can be hard to copy paste with those for some people:

Thanks, but I already tried the kidney foundation. It wasn't my thing. They paired me with a guy that old and boring. Not to mention he was halfway around the world.

Seems pointless to put a young teenager in your situation with an older male mentor. Unless they really don't have enough mentors to be selective.
Did they ask you what kind of mentor you wanted?

ahcool; that explains that it is a global service; I will totally look into this for myself; Thanks heaps Leo. :)

I assume you have Face Book, and Twitter? Have you asked if anyone would like to share experiences?
How about the hospital, or doctor you go to for your treatments? Could you ask if there are other people in your interest age group that might like to talk, and leave your contact information with them?
